Looking to spruce up your walls around the house? There are endless ways you could do it. For instance, you could hang up a few photo frames to make a giant photo collage or paint a few canvases to be displayed. Either ways, we simply love the idea of decorating and adding our own personal touch to create a cosy and chic environment for our home. Hence, we’ll show you an easy and super inexpensive way for you to add a little zing to your walls with this DIY flower garland made out of crepe paper.
You’ll need: Needle and thread, crepe paper, scissors, floral wire
Firstly, cut your crepe paper into many rectangles measuring 2.5 inches in height and 8 inches in width.
To make your flowers, layer 4 rectangles on top of each other and fold about 1 cm lengthwise, folding upwards and then downwards alternatively.
When you’ve reached the end, snip off any excess crepe paper from the side. Then, on the top and bottom of the folded crepe paper, cut rounded edges.
Snip about 1/4 of the way through the middle on both sides, leaving a little link right in the middle.
Using the floral wire, make a loop around the middle of the crepe paper to tie it together. Snip off the excess wire.
You’ll be left with something like this once you’re finished with your crepe paper. If you’d like more flowers in your garland, cut up more crepe paper to make more flowers.
Next, fan out all the layers of the folds in the crepe paper. Don’t worry about being neat because it looks better when it’s messy. Also, be careful when fanning out the layers as the crepe paper will tear easily.
Once, you’ve finished, you’ll be left with a bunch of beautiful flowers!
To make your garland, use the needle to thread through all the flowers and tie the ends in a knot. Your garland is now complete!
We’ve attached ours to the wall with some masking tape. Since the colour of the tape matched the wall, we didn’t need to worry about concealing the tape. Isn’t it pretty?
