Halloween is only a few days away and some readers have told us that they’re in a limbo ’cause they wanna ‘dress up’ but don’t have the cash to splurge on a costume. Well, with that little budget you have, you can just buy some make-up and re-invent yourself. Here are five personalities you can create with some make-up and old clothes!
1. Karl Lagerfeld
This is a genius idea brought to you by the creative folk at XOVain. Karl Lagerfeld may be the most respected icon in the fashion world, but he’s a pretty intimidating man, if you think about it!
This costume might help if you already have light blonde hair or have a peroxide blonde wig stashed up in your closet. If you don’t, you can try investing in a white-coloured hairspray to give yourself this salt-and-pepper effect. You can also gel your hair back with Vaseline and use baby powder as an alternative.
First off, apply a layer of BB Cream, then contour your cheekbones, jawline, forehead and chin with a matte bronzer. Compliment the look with a monochrome outfit and finish off with a pair of large sunnies.
2. Liza Minelli in Cabaret
In the words of Liza Minnelli in Cabaret “Life is a cabaret”, so channel your inner cabaret starlet this Halloween by giving it a sassy turn with false lashes and a lot of eyeliner!
This is your golden moment to pile up on blue eyeshadow and don a beauty mark without feeling like a trollop. Apply dark blue eyeshadow from inner to outer eyelids, and then use a blue eyeliner to extend it out to form a cat-eye. Blend the blues in together with a brush, and then grab a black eyeliner and line the upper and lower eyelids. Apply spider-lash falsies on the upper eyelids and use mascara on the lower lids. For your beauty mark, use your eyeliner and draw a circle on the apples of your right cheek after applying blusher. Apply your reddest lipstick, and put on your favorite LBD! Bowler hat optional.
3. Alex from A Clockwork Orange
A Clockwork Orange went from a humble novella to one of Stanley Kubrick’s cult classics in 1971. Despite the violent themes of the film, it did actually leave a mark in the modern times with the iconic costume of its lead character, Alex. The outfit is ultimately simple. All you need is to dress up entirely in white, preferably of a slim silhouette, carry a glass of milk, put on a bowler’s hat, and apply one false lashes on one eye.
4. The Creepy China Doll
If you have some old gowns hiding in your closet, give them purpose by turning it into your dress for a your creepy Halloween doll outfit.
A little make-up skill is required but it’s nothing too difficult. Start by prepping your face with foundation, including your lips. Groom your brows neatly and line your eyes, applying it with a lengthening mascara. Apply false lashes on your lower eyelids, and then apply a very pink or red blush over the apples of your cheeks. Really saturate the color that it looks doll-like. As for your lips, use a lip liner to draw a standard heart-shaped mouth. Apply your favorite lipstick with the help of a lip brush for more definition.
5. The Sultry Kitten
A classic look for the sex kitten in you, all you need is heaps of black eyeliner (gel or pencil), and some bronzer! Draw a triangle at the tip of your nose, fill it in, and then draw a line from the tip of your nose to the top of your Cupid’s Bow. Mark a few spots around your laugh-lines to resemble whiskers. Then, finish off with intense cat-eyes, and extend the lines from your lower lids. This is to enhance the cat-like gaze you find in felines!
Finish off with a rosy lipstick, and put on your favorite leopard print pieces.
