5 Natural Ways to Cure Sunburn

Sometimes even after  piling on the sunblock, and as careful as we try to be, we can’t avoid the overexposure of the sun leading to sunburns which is sometimes inevitable. The worst part is, it really, really hurts! Here are some techniques to soothe and treat a sunburn using natural ingredients which are safe and homemade that can help quicken the healing process;

1.Aloe Vera.

When it comes to sunburn there is nothing natural that’s better than aloe vera as it quickly relieves the pain as well as helps in the skin’s healing process. For centuries people have been using it to moisturize and protect their skin as it has antiseptic which is good to prevent bacteria and antibiotic. Aloe vera, does not contain substances such as oil, therefore there isn’t substances in it to irritate the burn or clog up the pores.  It also increases oxygenation of the skin. You can either use a chunk off the plant, as using the natural substance is good for you and just rub it gently on the burnt areas or you can even get certain types of gels that contain aloe vera that they sell in most pharmacies and stores.

2. Green Tea.
Green tea is well known as a powerful anti-oxidant and has been proven to help soothe sunburns. It has natural properties such as tannic acid and polyphenols help reduce skin inflammation and redness, as well as protect skin cells. All you need to do is brew up a pot of green tea and let is cool down, then soak a wash cloth in the tea and compress it on the sunburn areas.

3. Vinegar.
Vinegar helps to balance the pH (acid and alkalinity) of sunburned skin and helps promote healing. Also, one of the components of the vinegar is acetic acid which is also found in medication such as aspirin. It helps ease sunburn pain, stop itching and inflammation. Also, it has the ability to reduce the chances of your skin from forming blisters after burning. Soak a washcloth with apple cider vinegar or distilled white vinegar and dillute it with some water. Lay the washcloth on the sunburned area for 15 to 20 minutes.

4. Lavender.

Lavender not only smells amazing, but is known for it’s benefitial properties for any type of burn, including sunburn. It immediately helps relief and speeds up the healing process. It also prevents the skin from peeling, which saves you from extra pain. Using lavender essential oils and slowly massaging it onto your burnt areas. Leave it to dry and rest, the effect of it is almost instant.

5. Yogurt.
Yogurt contains enzymes and acids that can help cool down the sunburn. It also have properties that can reduce irritation and itching, redness and swelling as it cools the skin. Yogurt is also very mild so it doesn’t harm your skin and can be mixed with other ingredients (as listed above) to help heal the sunburn faster.  Let it sit on your skin until it warms up and then rinse it off.
