It was only a month ago when we first announced the 10 finalists of the Kronenbourg 1664 L’Aperitif Fashion 2013, and the competition is already heating up!
L’Aperitif Fashion 2013, is Malaysia’s most exciting fashion competition where the winner of the competition will experience an internship at a top fashion house in London with a recommendation by Datuk Prof. Dr. Jimmy Choo O.B.E.
We’ve also just revealed the contestants designs, but a lot of us are fairly eager to know how they’re progressing. With Gillian Hung, President of the Malaysian Official Designers’ Association as judge and mentor, the lucky finalists got a chance to get their work reviewed by one of the most revered names in the Malaysian fashion industry.
Gillian’s counseling is not be compared to Project Runway’s Tim Gunn. Gillian knows just about everything about fashion and she was able to point out the littlest details that average consumers don’t see in a design. She’s straight to the point, honest but still embraces the talent of the young designers, some of whom are still students. Gillian really knows what she’s talking about when it comes to fashion and it’s truly remarkable to see someone who knows just about everything in an industry that’s so competitive!
Some of the contestants have trouble sourcing out the right fabrics for their designs, but not to worry – Gillian will hook you up with her supplier!
When asked if she was confident enough to present her design to Gillian, finalist Michelle Soong gave herself a 7 out of 10! Inspired by Marie Antoinette’s lack of love, Michelle’s designs aimed to portray the fallen queen’s sense of purity through light and sheer fabrics.
“I’m not completely satisfied with my work for now as the final touches have yet to be completed. I’m not so worried about the design when it comes to Gillian’s mentoring, but I’m more concerned about Gillian’s eye for detail. I’m barely in my second semester, so I hope to work on it thoroughly”.
