We’ve all made mistakes when it comes to shopping for clothes. It’s not just the piece itself, but you eventually find things coming off sooner than you’ve expected. So next time you invest in long-lasting pieces you plan on wearing again and again, here are ten tips to help you make the perfect purchase.
1. Know Your Colors
Choosing the right colors when you shop will do you a lot of good. When you know your right colors, it can brighten your skin, eyes and hair, and even go as far as to making you more youthful and vibrant. Observe your skin tone and see what works best against it. Whether your playing with Pantone swatches or even swatching eyeshadow colors on your arm, it can give you a right idea of what suits you best.
2. Read the Care Instructions
A lot of people forget to consider garment care rules. They send it to the cleaners without knowing what works for the fabric and before you know it, it’s ruined. Furthermore, dry-clean only fabrics are not only a hassle to send to the dry cleaners, but they can also cost you a lot. So, always check before you buy.
3. Run a Wrinkle Test
Wrinkles on your clothes are the worst especially if it’s on your work outfit. Test the fabric before you buy it. All you need to do is scrunch it in your hand and hold it for a few seconds. If it’s still the same after you release the fabric, the chances of it wrinkling at the end of the day will be less.
4. Know Your Body Type
Every woman should know what fits their figure like a perfect match. Some people are born with bigger hips, or the lucky ones are born with proportionate shoulder-to-hip ratio. All you need to do is whip out your measuring tape and measure your hips, bust and waist and shoulders to get an idea of what your silhouette is.
5. Get a Rear View
Believe it or not, the front mirror is not enough tot tell you where you look good enough in that dress you want to buy. Try to find a three-way mirror or turn around and see how your back fits in your clothes.
6. Move Around
New clothes can a little tighter than usual, but it helps you move around to see how it fits. It’s important to see that your jeans still fits comfortable when you sit or walk. Don’t buy clothes that restrict your movement. Even if it’s something you really want and you’ll promise yourself that you’ll lose weight – don’t.
7. Know Your Wow Factor
On top of the beautiful smile or that great hair, everyone’s got a special ‘wow bit’ on their body. It could be their skin tone, their bust line, the shape of their butt or even those beautiful legs. Find one thing you adore about your figure and flaunt place emphasis on that fabulous feature.
8. Check the Details
When we find something we really want, we try it on and then head straight to the counter. We often forget to check that all the buttons are in place and even the quality of the zippers. Sometimes the quality of the stitching may not even be up to standard, so you’ll want to give that all a check before you check your item out.
9. Seek Natural Lighting
Always try your clothes on in great lighting. If a light is too bright, it can make your look washed out, while dim lighting won’t help you tell if something’s too sheer. So, check to see if there are other lightbulbs for you to tell if the clothes look the same in different lighting.
10. Think About Your Closet
We sometimes think to ourselves, “Oh, this would go well with my..”. And that’s a great strategy when it comes to shopping. It’s great to be able to integrate your new purchase with your current wardrobe. New clothes should coordinate with what you have in your closet.
