Saving money can be one of the most hardest things to do. It’s a life-long cycle that requires discipline, effort and determination, much like losing weight. However, saving money doesn’t mean that it has to suck the fun out of everything. These eight easy methods will help you save a lot of money each day, and you can even see your bank cashing in by the end of the week. Here’s to an effective way to saving money!
1. Pack Your Lunch
No matter how cheap the lunch deals, you’ll still find yourself spending at least RM5 a day on a meal you can easily cook at home. Make the effort to start preparing your lunch from home using healthier options too. That way you can shed some weight on top of saving your cash! Soups are still the best options – they’re easy to make, especially if you have a hot pot and you can use just about anything you have lying in the freezer. Remember to stock up on the veggies too!
2. Carry What You Need
When we carry just a little more in our wallet, we tend to think that we have enough to spend the money on something. Instead of fishing yourself out for more stuff to buy with the little money you have, leave it at home in a jar and just continue your day to spend the allocated amount you have.
3. Keep A Reminder
Are you planning to save your money for that beach vacation in Maldives? Or a trip to Europe. Remind yourself by carrying something in your wallet, like a picture of why you plan on saving your money for. It’ll work like a guilt-trip, but at least you’re saving up for a happier future.
4. Put Some Aside
Set up a jar in your room, and everyday, store some or all of your leftover cash you’ve allocated for the day. Alternatively, you can even put aside RM5 each day. In a month, you’ll have RM150. Do that each month, and you’ll have up to RM1800 a year. That’s already a lot of money if you think about it. You don’t have to go as far as RM5, but even just RM100 a month can go a long way.
5. Write Down Your Expenses
Each day, write down what you spend on. You shouldn’t look at receipts as just pieces of paper that bulk up your wallet every few days, but you should think of it as a reminder of what you’ve spent each time you whip out your wallet. Once you’ve realized in detail just how much you’ve spent, you’re more likely be able to think about how much you need to save.
6. Have a Swap Party
No one likes wearing the same thing over and over again, so if you’re looking to freshen up your wardrobe, loan something from your friend or organize a swap party with a few girls. Everyone want something they don’t have, so why not swap and have fun too? Also, when it comes to shopping for clothes, spend most on practical and long-lasting items that you can switch up with accessories.
7. Don’t Buy in Bulk
Buying in bulk can be a real life-saver sometimes. But the truth is, it’s really like locking all your money in one product for a few months. Although it’s definitely much cheaper than buying a few each month, you’ll be able to organize your finances easily as you’ll know how much you spend on average for a certain product.
8. Mark Your Calendar
We all tend to have a day in a month where we’ll probably spend a lot of money and that’s usually a day when you go out to party or if there’ll be a celebration taking place. Whenever there’s something happening, mark it down on your calendar so you’ll have a reminder to let you know that you need to allocate a certain amount of money for that occasion. It may be easy to do it even without the mark, but having a mental reminder in black and white always helps.
