The heavy snow brought another round of disaster in the northern Japanese island of Hokkaido as eight people, including a family of four died due to the snowfall.
According to our source, a car with a family of four and another two were buried in snow. The family of four was later identified as Kazuyo Miyashita and her three children and they have died of carbon-monoxide poisoning after being trapped in the car that was buried in snow. Her children aged between 11-17.
Meanwhile, 23-year-old Haruna Kitagawa was found froze to death after leaving her car and a 53-year-old man died Sunday after getting buried in the snow. His 9-year-old daughter survived without serious injury as he covered her with his body.
Police said two other men aged 54 and 74 were found collapsed in the snow in another part of Hokkaido and they were pronounced dead later Sunday.
The winter has reportedly dumped more snow than usual over the weekend a bullet train was reportedly derailed in Akita prefecture on Saturday afternoon as well.
