Former Internet marketeer Chin Xin-Ci may have recovered from her physical scars from the near abduction she expereinces, but ofcourse, the emotional scars are harder to heal.
Chin suffered cuts and bruises after she had a cleaver pressed against her neck by a couple of would-be rapists who pounced on her at the car park at The Curve shopping center on the 27th of May 2012.
Two men forced her into a car, but she found a way to escape as the car was exiting the carpark – she ran for her life.
Chin used the experience she went through to do something good – she developed a smartphone application that helps with personal safety. Producing this app in partnership with app developer, “Watch Over Me” which allows users to register for an event.
Basically, the app works like a mini ‘spy’. If the user doesn’t “check-in” within a certain time period, then a message will be sent out to the emergency contact numbers while the camera and voice recorder will be activated automatically and stored into servers.
Unlike other apps, you don’t have take your time to unlock your phone, open the app and then hit the panic button – with this ‘Watch Over Me’ app, there is also a GPS tracking system that allows others to determine your location.
Chin has been working on this app since October to ensure that it really is user-friendly.
