It’s not that hard to find a role-model to look up to. Each woman comes with a unique trait, and each of these seven women represent something close to their hearts – whether its their career, their right to speak, helping those in need, these women will surely be someone we hope to be.
1. Lena Dunham
Thanks to Lena Dunham, we now have a TV show where we don’t see women donning Louboutins we will never own. Girls, is a hit TV show on HBO that follows the lives of four women in their early 20’s living in the unglamorous side of New York. They show depicts their struggles with romance, career, and being financially independent. The fact that the entire show is written by Lena herself, she has somehow become an outspoken and creative female figure in television, and also in feminism. She also represents a leading lady who isn’t a size 2, and she’s open to showing that she isn’t perfect. A true representation that we should all leave our flaws at the door, and reach for our goals.
2. Guilinana Rancic
You may know Giuliana Rancic as the anchor on E! News. Giuliana is a modern day inspiration for women of all age as she’s endured quite a few challenges in her road to happiness. After she graduated, she overcame numerous obstacles to finally get the job she wanted. Furthermore, despite a happy marriage, Giuliana had trouble with fertility, where she couldn’t conceive a child with husband, Bill Rancic. After in-vitro fertilization, Giuliana was finally pregnant, but suffered a miscarriage nine weeks later. After a mammogram test to find the reason behind her infertility, Giuliana found out she had breast cancer, but was still motivated to have a baby. With the help of a surrogate, the couple welcomed their son in August 2012.
3. Tina Fey
Tina Fey is well-known for her role as neurotic Liz Lemon on comedy series, 30 Rock. She’s also a proof that any woman can have it all – brains, sex appeal, and funny too. In 2008, Tina was awarded the Associated Press (AP) Entertainer of the Year for her satirical portrayal of Sarah Palin. Surprisingly, Tina made it to being a sex icon when she was listed in Maxim’s Hot 100 List and People magazine’s Most Beautiful People issue. Just thinking about this gives us hope that we can all be sex symbols in our own terms!
4. Audrey Hepburn
Audrey Hepburn is a legend in American film and fashion too. Apart from being a style icon, Audrey also remains to be one of the few people to have won Academy, Emmy, Grammy and Tony Awards for her acting. As her life went on, and as she starred in fewer films, she devoted a lot of her time to UNICEF as a humanitarian. She was appointed as Goodwill Ambassador of UNICEF and was also presented with the Presidential Medal of Freedom in recognition for her work by George H.W. Bush. Beauty with a heart, was Audrey, and she will always be remembered for that too.
5. Kimora Lee Simmons
Kimora Lee-Simmons is no stranger to the limelight. She started modeling at the tender age of 13, and even earned an exclusive contract with House of Chanel promptly after she went to Paris. 6. Cyndi Lauper
You may remember her as the vivacious talent behind the iconic 80’s hit, Girls Just Wanna Have Fun. Cyndi Lauper is a wild, girl power icon in the 80s, and while she encouraged young girls back then to have fun, Lauper is one busy workaholic. She’s a mother, has a reality show, and is also working on a Broadway musical she co-wrote called Kinky Boots. Despite being a parent and a decently life of success, Lauper is still down-to-earth, still washes her dishes in pajamas, but she still has her edge – still sporting her pink hair at the age of 60.
