We’ve seen male models trotting down the runway with skirts from designer’s collections such as Givenchy, Rick Owens and Jean Paul Gaultier. But so far only a few daring one such as Jared Leto, Kanye West, G-Dragon, Marc Jacobs have not shied away from the shorter skirts and wear them on the street full of confidence. It’s not even a cringe-worthy fashion revolution as a lot of men have been wearing skirts like sarong, kilts and dhoti over the past few years.

Jonathan Anderson, a young British designer goes all out on his men’s collection for Fall 2013 at London Fashion Week. JW Anderson’s past collection featured ankle length A-lines skirts but this time around, the skirts are shorter, and with shorts that looked like skirts. Even though the men are wearing mini frill skirts and dresses with shorter hemline (even shorter than women’s wear collection), but the masculinity still remains.
Anderson has certainly pushed the boundaries and blurred the gender divide gracefully. It was a bold move made by Anderson and call us ridiculous, it is a trend we want to see well-accepted by the public. Men’s skirts might not be trending soon, but we certainly hope that men would take up the challenge and beat the odds of being the shock factor. In fact, it’s not exactly a new concept. The matter lies on the idea of men wearing skirts has not been popularized and it is not a generally accepted social norm. It is not deviant behavior, it’s self-expression, and if women can wear pants, why can’t men wear skirts?
