Amy Winehouse is known not only for her outstanding style (that beehive and winged vintage liner) – but her music was just as stunning. It’s as if Amy Winehouse time travelled from the past to remind us what music way back then was like.

When it comes to music – she’s always stuck to her genre and never titled a single inche towards to stereotypes of pop music and the things that sells. She wowed us all constantly with her deep contralto vocals and interesting lyrics.

Unfortunately, the biggest issue was Amy was her alcohol and drug addiction – it was continuous battled that never got solved.

In 2011, she was found dead and what some say was a drug over dose and others say it was a reaction to going cold turkey on drugs. Despite it all, she won’t be remember for her mistakes, but instead, for the music and the evolution she’s brought to us.

Here are FIVE interesting  facts about this artist:

1. Fashion icon to designers
Her signature style made her a muse to fashion designer Karl Largerfeld – and even after her death, designers continued to use her as their inspiration.

2. Caring friend
We all know that Amy sang about not wanting to go to rehab to treat her alcohol and drug issues, but she reportedly spend more than $200,000 to send her friend and stylist, Alex Foden, to recover in rehab.

3. She’s been expelled
While studying at London’s Sylvia Young Theatre School , Amy Winehouse decided to peirce her nose and that got her  expelled – along with having a ‘horrible attitude’. When she was 14 years old, she dropped out of school completely.

4. Rehab with Charles and Hathaway
In her song, ‘Rehab’ she mentions the names ‘Ray’ and ‘Mr.Hathaway’. She was referring to soul singers Ray Charles and Donny Hathaway.

5. Buzz that hair
Her famous ‘beehive’ hair always grew through time – but in general, it was 6 inches tall. Now, that’s pretty high-hair.

And to top it all off – here are our top five picks on her music!
