What Didn’t I Do For My Child?

Being a parent in this modern world can be extremely challenging and not to mention the different demands which you are supposed to meet just to ensure that your child’s needs are fulfilled.

Many mothers ask themselves along the way “what didn’t I do for my child?” Hmmm… maybe the correct question should be “why did I give them so much to the extend they turned out to be brats?”

Parents tend to give their children the best especially when they are between the age of 6 to 20 as they want them to have the best childhood they could ever have. According to The Princeton, the years between 6 to 14 is critical as this is the time children start to develop their identity.

If you are a new parent, then here are the areas which you should be careful of. Responsibility should be instilled inside every child from the very beginning.

Money

According to an article in The CBS News, Adam Sandler stated that it was hard to raise children these days if you are rich. There is certainly nothing wrong in the statement he made! Have you ever thought how ‘responsible’ your child would be when they are grown up if you constantly kept giving them all the money they wanted? Teach them to save from young and teach them that if they want something, they would need to work for it.

Holidays

We all love holidays and we certainly want to enjoy certain outings with our kids while they are still young. Have you ever thought of taking them to a third world country for a short vacation? You may ask what is the point as they can’t understand anything. But lovelies, the memory will always remain alive inside them and teach them from young about how different people live in different countries. This would be a good lesson for them to learn how to respect others.

Gadgets

According to The Daily Mail, one third of parents regretted their action of allowing their kids to get hold of fancy gadgets as it was proven that it did hinder the youngsters patience, social skills and creativity. Let them grow up playing simple games with other children and ensure that they are well equipped with basic skills before you can start buying them gadgets.

Decision Making

When it comes to decision making, you should actually know when to give in and when to pull the strings back. Take their opinions into consideration but when it comes to certain matters, put your foot down and be firm about what they should do. For instance, if you have allocated a special study time for them, then make sure they stick to it no matter what their excuses are. If you start this discipline from young, they will eventually learn that not everything can go their way and there are times when they would need to listen to their parents.
