One would think that all art belongs in a gallery. Personally, I enjoy visiting art galleries and letting my feet wander from one piece of art to another. It’s the only place where I could fully immerse myself in the storytelling of artworks. If you enjoy visiting art galleries as much as I do, you may soon have the opportunity to elevate your art-viewing experience by visiting Kuala Lumpur’s most opulent hotel.
Why, you might ask? Because W Kuala Lumpur has collaborated with Gallery des Artiste to present a curated selection of interactive artwork by Gung HO for hotel guests to explore.
The “Art in Hotel” collaboration will provide an exclusive opportunity for guests to physically explore the vibrant and bold artworks from a new perspective, while staying at W Kuala Lumpur. The Art in Hotel initiative allows you to stroll through the beautiful hotel, while immersing yourself in the vibrant, colourful, playful, and POP world of Gung HO and Co.
Gallerist and interior designer Edith HO, Malaysian-born artist HONG, and internationally-renowned British Pop artist Jonny Zerox make up the Gung HO team. The hotel is strewn with their magnificent art pieces, which combine Pop art and Oriental aesthetics. Guests can wander through and interact with the art pieces curated by Gung HO from the W Kuala Lumpur’s porte-cochere to the spectacular Extreme WOW suite on the 23rd floor.
Porte-cochere
Gung HO’s Pop Orient is a new vibe in Pop Art – with a Chinese twist. The Pop Orient collection is sexy and modern, with one-of-a-kind, sophisticated pieces of art and design. In 2018, French artist Hersk paid tribute to Malaysia’s Twin Towers with a Pop wedding cake design and green foliage to portray our nation’s wonderful and thick rainforest.
WOOBAR
Gung HO’s Crazy Asians collection was created during the COVID-19 pandemic. It’s entertaining, provocative, and uses hand gestures to emphasise colours and attitudes. The art brings W KL’s WOOBAR to life thanks to the pop art graphic and aesthetically-pleasing neon colours.
FLOCK
Shy Guy, an American artist based in Asia, collaborated with Gung HO on the Buzz Light Words collection. It’s a showcase of typographic art and neon art that conveys strong and powerful messages about our current world. The art pieces are scattered throughout W Kuala Lumpur’s FLOCK restaurant, adding colours and light to the whole eatery.
YEN
This is how the collaboration between W Kuala Lumpur and Gallery des Artistes began. Gung HO’s POP ORIENT Chinese Collection includes paintings and other art pieces, such as an antique porter chair covered in art.
E-WOW Suite
Behold – “Jungle in the City”, a pair of murals, custom-made in France, which pay homage to Kuala Lumpur, our lovely green city. In addition, the show’s main attraction is the artists’ newest art collection, “Empress Chill.” Gung HO prefers to connect with local culture through their art experiences – and it’s exactly shown through these four art pieces.
