Earlier this week, Lipstiq had the pleasure of visiting none other than Genting Highlands! It was a 2-day 1-night staycation packed with a plethora of activities and new experiences unlike any other. From braving the thrilling rides at Genting Skyworld Theme Park, to trekking through the beautiful rainforest at Resorts World Awana – we had a blast!
Our adventure began with a bang when we arrived at Genting Highlands’ new Genting Skyworlds Theme Park. Genting Skyworlds was right up my alley in terms of “fun” (I’m an adrenaline junkie). I was eager to ride as many rides as possible in a short amount of time, before heading to our night’s lodging.
Walking into the theme park, I felt like a child entering a candy store for the first time. Nothing will bring out your inner child more than getting to play to your heart’s content at a theme park – and that’s exactly what we did. Out of the 15 attractions that were open to theme park-goers, we managed to experience eight rides! We even rode one ride twice!
We had a great time riding all of the attractions at Genting Skyworlds – from the Independence Day: Defiance ride to Ice Age’s Acorn Adventure. The Terraform Tower Challenge, Alpha Fighter Pilots, and Ice Age’s Acorn Adventure are three of our favourite rides. I’ve never felt dizzier in my life, after riding those three attractions consecutively. They are a must-ride for anyone visiting Genting Skyworlds.

We were then whisked away for lunch to Genting Skyworlds’ majestic Studio Plaza, to fill our hungry bellies with the best Hong Kong bites at Han’s Cha Chaan Teng. The restaurant serves an extensive menu of delectable Asian dishes for Genting Skyworlds visitors. We ordered noodles, chicken siew mai, and even bo lo buns, all of which were delicious (and well-deserved, after screaming our lungs out at the Terraform Tower Challenge).
Once we had our fun-filled tour of Genting Skyworlds, we headed off to our night’s lodging – Resorts World Awana. I’d previously stayed at the resort prior to its renovation, so you can imagine my surprise when I walked into the lobby of the newly-refurbished premises. I couldn’t believe it was the same resort I had stayed at a few years before!
The lobby was completely new and well-furnished, with lush foliage adorning the entire premises, providing a warm welcome for guests to unwind and relax. By the time we settled into our rooms, it was time for dinner and thankfully, it was Wednesday, which meant it was Jazz and Pizza Night at AYU Awana restaurant.
To say we were stuffed would be an understatement, as AYU Awana not only served their pizzas – a fusion delight that included Perak Beef Rendang Tok Pizza and Lamb Tikka Masala Pizza – but also their dinner menu. AYU Awana combines music and meals for their customers to enjoy under the stars, which was undoubtedly the best way to end the night.
On Thursday, we woke up bright and early and started our day with a heavy breakfast at AYU Awana. After a much-needed scrumptious meal to recharge our batteries, we headed to the resort’s lobby, where we had a briefing on our highly-anticipated trekking adventure at Resorts World Awana’s Genting Nature Adventure.
Once the briefing was over, we set off to trek at Awana Trail, guided by Eddie Chan and his wife, Pat Ang, both nature consultants who were eager to guide us and share their knowledge of the Highland’s biodiverse rainforest. It was the most interactive trekking guide I’ve experienced, courtesy of Eddie, who made it a point to educate us on all the flora and fauna we were passing.
While the day began bright and sunny, partway through our hike, it started pouring rain. We were forced to leave the rainforest, with the help of Park Rangers. Thankfully, with the aid of a lorry and its driver, we safely made our way back to the resort, all in one piece. It was truly one of the most unique experiences I’ve had throughout my life, because not only am I not a hiker, I hiked during a downpour – and got to ride in a lorry.
Once we’d all showered and freshened up, we trudged towards Resorts World Awana’s all-new Awana Garden restaurant, where we warmed ourselves up with their delicious bubbling hotpot. It was seafood and meat galore, accompanied by a breathtaking view of the resort’s golf course – truly a great way to end our unforgettable adventure!
