Lights, camera, ACTION!
The Petaling Jaya Performing Arts Center, also known as PJPAC or the Petaling Jaya Performing Arts Precinct, is a dedicated arts zone housed within 1 Utama’s newest wing, 1 Utama E. Completely owned and operated by 1 Utama, PJPAC is made up of a 686-seat, fully-equipped proscenium theatre (Stage 1), a black box (Nero Event Space), as well as a talent (1ncubator).
On the 27th of July, 2022, PJPAC staged its maiden performance: Once Upon A Stage, which featured doyens of the local live theatre industry, including Joanne Kam, Syed Zalihafe, Dama Asia, Hands Percussion, Mad G Dance Crew, Kenny Shim Co, Lee Swee Keong, Zamzuriah Zahari & BaiZam Generation and Performing Arts CCA UiTM led by Professor Norzizi.
With a script by Ghafir Akbar, artistic direction by renowned Malaysian Director Dato’ Zahim Albakri, production by Wyn Hee, stage management by the skilled Pat Gui with assistance from Hamidon Ab Hamid, Zaidi bin Kamaruzaman, and Al-Hafiz, as well as lighting engineer Ee Chee Wei and sound engineer Tim Low, the performance marked a sensational debut for the Klang Valley’s newest creative space.

Stage 1 Theatre
Malaysia’s newest proscenium theatre is equipped with state-of-the-art equipment and versatile acoustic architecture, which comprise a 10m x 5m P3.9 LED screen; a Follow Spot tracking system called Follow-Me that utilises moving heads as spotlights with the ability to have a tracking pack on specific talent on stage or control the spotlight movement using a joystick; and 40 bars of an active counter-weight fly system that allows for multiple set changes and even flying someone across the stage. The 970sqm space seats a total of 684 and is the largest proscenium theatre in Selangor.
Nero Event Space
This is an experimental black box theatre with modular seating platforms to accommodate all event requirements. Suitable for small-to-mid scale productions, events and functions, this 330sqm space can hold up to 200 sitting or 300 standing audience members.
Pre-Function Lobby
The Pre-Function Lobby is perfect for press meets, pre-function cocktails, art exhibitions, product launches and more.
The Gallery
The Gallery is PJPAC’s unconventional gallery space with modular hanging systems for unique exhibition setups. If you’re photogenic, this is the perfect spot for you. And the colourful light display will make your photos ‘extra’.
The Lounge
Stationed at Level 3, the brightly-lit lounge is a unique alfresco area that provides a more private and exclusive setting for events and performances.
Since April 2021, PJPAC has hosted numerous corporate events of well-known international and local brands. No stranger to the theatre community, PJPAC has also played host to dramas, dance productions and live music performances from notable acts.
