I’ve shared a lot about makeup hacks, beauty tips, product launches and even products you should have in your vanity. There are a lot of aspects in the beauty community that I feel obliged to share and would be remiss if I didn’t – and that includes tea. The realm of all things makeup and beauty is a wonderful place to be in and the tea sometimes is too scorching hot to not be discussed.
We’ve had numerous dramas within the beauty community over these past few years, mostly over on YouTube, where influencers would share their side of the story on how the drama unfolded. However, since TikTok came into the picture, a surge of new beauty influencers emerged to make a name for themselves in the app, which include Mikayla Nogueira, Abby Roberts, Meredith Duxbury and so on.
Speaking of Meredith Duxbury, she apparently is in hot water with the beauty community for her review of Jones Road’s What The Foundation. In all my years of being in this community, I’ve seen some fair share of controversial makeup products – but nothing like this foundation.
If you are familiar with Meredith Duxbury on TikTok, you’d know that she would excessively pile on a ton of foundation onto her skin and would look completely flawless and not cakey by the end of her videos.
But, in reality, piling on an unnecessary amount of foundation would not only result in your complexion looking caked-up – you waste your makeup product as well. Plus, foundations differ from one formula to another – some require build-up for full coverage and others require only a little to achieve that “skin but better” look – and it’s exactly what Jones Road’s What The Foundation has been marketed as.
So, you can only imagine how the internet reacted when Meredith uploaded her review of this foundation.
@meredithduxbury I’m gonna have to pass….😭😅🥴
As you can see from the video, the foundation didn’t sit well on her skin. It moved, separated and she even took off a chunk of the product from her cheek and viewers were aghast at how terrible the formula is.
But some of the viewers in the comment section actually defended the product, insisting that Meredith applied the foundation incorrectly because it is advertised as a tinted balm with a dewy finish. Others also chimed in and said that Meredith may have used an oil-based primer, which may have caused the foundation to split because it’s a water-based foundation.
After facing such a backlash from the community, Meredith uploaded another TikTok video and attempted to try Jones Road’s What The Foundation again.
@meredithduxbury Reply to @courtxoxoxoxo We gave it a second chance…. 😬🤭
In this second video, Meredith explained how there’s not much of a difference between the two sides of her face and how the smell of the foundation is “very overpowering”. Not liking a foundation is perfectly fine and everyone is entitled to their opinion – it’s just a foundation in the end.
But not for Bobbi Brown, though. You might be asking, “What does Bobbi Brown have to do with this?”. Well, Bobbi Brown is the founder of Jones Road Beauty, her second makeup brand besides Bobbi Brown, and mostly targets consumers who aim for a more natural look.
Now the full tea? Bobbi Brown may or may not have said something about Meredith’s way of using her foundation.
@justbobbibrown How did I do?? Applying Jones Road’s light to medium coverage What The Foundation 🤣😅 #foundation #foundationhack #foundationroutine
The comment section had a field day when Bobbi Brown posted her shady TikTok video, with influencers from Laura Lee to Alissa Ashley finding it super hilarious. It’s not every day you’d see a makeup mogul as prestigious as Bobbi Brown defending one of her products, but she had every right to do so. She later posted another TikTok video demonstrating how to correctly use Jones Road’s What The Foundation.
@justbobbibrown 3 ways to properly apply WTF: take your pick! #foundation #foundationhack #foundationroutine
It’s clear that through their campaigns and advertisements that the Jones Road’s What The Foundation is meant to be used for those who seek more natural coverage. So, it’s really important that we do our research on a makeup product, especially when one has millions of followers, like Meredith.
Meredith Duxbury has yet to address the situation – but if I were you, I wouldn’t hold my breath.
