Having a person with whom you can share your every thought and for whom you are constantly there is one of the best things that you can have in your life. Who needs dating when you have a bestie 4 life, right? However, there are some “besties” out there who don’t necessarily reciprocate those things, and are just looking out for themselves and are never there for you.
It sucks because when you’re in need, they’re never there, but whenever they need your help, you’re the first person they reach out too. It’s called a one-sided friendship, and it’s not a healthy friendship to be in.
If you have a suspicion that you have an unbalanced friendship, following signs may help you validate your suspicions.
It’s Always About Them
When you ask about their well-being and receive no response, it’s really frustrating. It makes you feel as if you were never important to them. Even more aggravating is the fact that they frequently pour their feelings onto you and want you to help them. However, they would not even bat an eye or lift a hand if you ask for assistance. That’s not a relationship worth investing in.
Constantly Bad Mouths Others
We all enjoy gossiping and spilling some tea, and it’s a terrific way to bond with a friend – sharing your frustrations about someone with them. However, when it happens all the time, it becomes a little too much. They are always saying something nasty about other people, which makes you wonder whether they say anything unpleasant about you. It’s not nice company to be around if those thoughts are circling in your mind.
They Aim For You To Fail
The worst friends are those that expect you to fail all the time. They are always criticising you and making you feel worse than you already do. If you succeed, they will scarcely open their mouths to applaud you or express their delight. You don’t need those negative energies around you because they’re only going to hurt you.
They Become Envious If You Broaden Your Circle
You certainly don’t want a friend who would get jealous when you make a new friend. It’s toxic to prevent someone from maturing and becoming a social butterfly because they’re frightened you’ll forget them. You wouldn’t if you had a wonderful friend that you treasure, since good friends are hard to come by. However, if they become envious, you have a free pass to end the friendship.
