Healing from trauma can sometimes be the most fulfilling experience. However, inevitably there would be moments where you would go into relapse. It might demotivate you from continuing the journey of healing but that shouldn’t always be the case.
A bump in the road should not discourage you from continuing on. In fact, you might not have realised that those small bumps are just subtle signs that you are healing. There are other signs as well that show you are gradually healing but might not have noticed them.
Being able to discern and appreciate the minor indications of recovery might help you stay motivated. You aren’t stagnant; you are just progressing at your own tempo.
You Start Bonding With Others
When you don’t feel like yourself, it would be a bit difficult to join in a conversation or when you are around people. However, when you begin your journey to recovery, the desire to reconnect with people begins to rekindle and you don’t feel anxious to either respond to a text or meet up with your family or friends.
You Don’t Feel Burdened
Before, it’s burdensome for you to even attempt to do anything around the house or even to take care of yourself and your hygiene. The subtle sign that you are recovering is when responsibilities don’t feel too taxing anymore. You are able to breathe freely without having that tight pain in your chest. Also, the heaviness on your shoulders progressively dissipates and you are able to feel relaxed.
You Are Able To Experience Joy
With a lighter feeling on your chest, you’re starting to produce more emotions such as happiness. You may not be completely content, but you may sense delight, even though it’s only for a little while. These little joys are baby steps for you to fully recover from your past trauma.
You Are Hopeful For The Future
The future itself can be daunting for anybody, especially for those who suffer from traumatic experiences. What’s holding them back from progressing is the haunting of their past. However, recovering from your trauma might start to get you fascinated for what the future holds. You don’t necessarily need to feel excited over it, but a little curiosity over doesn’t hurt.
You Experience Less Overwhelming Triggers
On certain days, you might experience episodes of being triggered but it’s not as upsetting as it were before. You would find ways to manage your emotions when dealing with those episodes, and some days might be a lot easier to handle than others.
