We do not need to tell you how irritating these ingrown hairs are. I’m sure most women experience this time and time again. If you’re clueless on what these pesky little things are, it’s basically your hair curled round and grown back into the skin. While that may sound fascinating, it doesn’t feel as much when it’s happening on your skin. These curled-up hairs can lead  to your skin having itchy spots, redness, pigmentation and even whiteheads.

Ingrown hairs can crop up almost about everywhere there’s hair, yes, even the bikini line. Ouch! Thankfully there are ways you can avoid getting ingrown hairs with these 4 expert tips that works wonderfully if done right. So let’s put a stop to this oh-so irritating bumps once and for all!

1. Exfoliate often

This is the top most effective tip to get rid of ingrown hairs. The reason why the ingrown hair appears is because the hair follicle gets clogged with dead skin cells, causing it to grow sideways (ouch). Therefore, with regular exfoliation, at least once a week, it will prevent the build-up of dead skin cells on the surface of the skin. Remember to not over exfoliate or else you’ll end up bruising your skin.

2. Consider trying hair removal creams instead of shaving

The biggest culprit for ingrown hair is shaving. When you shave, the hair tends to become a little more sharper in which the hair pokes back into the skin easily. Best of course is to not mess around with your hair and let them grow freely, but if you prefer to de-fluff, then try opting for sensitive hair removal creams instead.

3. Shave in the right direction

If you prefer shaving, then try changing the way you shave. The usual method would be to shave in the opposite direction, which means your hair will be cut in a sharper angle and easier for it to grow back under your skin. To prevent this from happening, try shaving in the same direction as your hair growth.

4. Use the right razor

For the perfect and clean shave, we recommend using a good razor like Gillette’s Venus. Some ingrown hairs can be caused by dull blades which leaves you with an uneven and bumpy shave. Avoid using disposable razors multiple times. Invest in a good razor which is suitable for more than one shaving session, leaves your skin smooth and shaves the hair perfectly.
