Beginning March 2016, the Malaysian government announced that the employees’ statutory contribution to the Employees Provident Fund (EPF) would be reduced from 11% to 8%, and now, it’s being reverted back to the original 11%.
This applies for members below the age of 60 with effect from January 2018, and for those aged 60 and above, it will be 5.5%. The EPF contribution of 11% will be implemented in the February 2018 EPF contribution.
The reduction of the EPF contribution rate to 8% in 2016 was done following the tabling of the revision of Budget 2016. The latest contribution rates can now be referred to at the Third Schedule, EPF Act 1991.
