While there’s no set guideline as to how often you should wash your bedding (or pretty much everything), it is advisable to wash your sheets at least once a week. Yet, some of us still have the habit of not washing our bedding as often, and this particular woman from China who hasn’t washed her pillowcases for six years learned it the hard way after she discovered that she had over 100 mites living on her eyelashes. Eww!
Think about the excess oils from your skin and hair, dead skin, dust mites and even bugs hidden amongst your sheets that will leave you with breakouts, clogged pores or worse. The Chinese woman who was diagnosed with blepharitis (inflammation of the eyelid) and conjunctivitis later made a horrifying confession, admitting that she had been using the same pillow case since 2012.
Known only by the name Xu, the woman’s symptoms apparently began two years ago when she started having irritated eyes. Not knowing how serious it was, Xu simply treated the itchiness with over-the-counter eye drops and eventually got accustomed to the irritation while suffering from red, puffy eyes.
It wasn’t until one day when she woke up and found that her usual irritated eyes had became swollen to the point where she was unable to open them. It was also then when she found out the repulsive truth after being sent to the hospital.
According to doctors, the lack of airflow in Xu’s bedroom and her habit of not washing her sheets had resulted to as many as 100 mites growing on every single eyelash. Having the mites removed from her eyelashes and given the medication for her conjunctivitis, the woman was told to cut off her hazardous habit and to wash her bedding regularly.
No thanks.. We’re definitely washing our bedding and everything else that comes in contact with our skin more often now! 😬
