Animal abusers, you better watch your sorry asses!
The Animal Welfare Act, which was gazetted back in 2015, will finally be enforced from July 18 2017, and will be a definite game changer to stop animal cruelty whilst advocating responsible pet ownership.
Under the Act, animal abusers will be fined between a hefty RM20,000 and RM100,000, or a maximum jail term of three years, or both.
Additionally, there will also be more detailed regulations and requirements, such as the minimum amount of space needed, quality of feed, and amount of care to be given, to be met by pet shops prior to obtaining their operating licence.
Similarly, animal boarding and animal shelters will also have to be licensed.
Just remember, even abandoning your pet and causing it to suffer injury, pain, starvation or illness could also get you in deep trouble!
