It’s so easy to lose sight of yourself; and by that, we mean your self-esteem! There are so many things in life that requires so much from you that you end up breaking down because you feel like you’re “not good enough”. That feeling can break you any time of the day, and when it hits, it can hit really hard.
If you’re starting to feel lost, or have lost appreciation for yourself, here are 10 tips that can help boost your self-esteem.
1. Be Open to Improving Your Self-Image
It’s not easy to improve your self-esteem when you base things on a version of you that’s negative. Here’s an activity – make a list of all your positive qualities on a piece of paper, and your negative qualities on another. Rip the list of negative qualities, toss it in the bin, then go through the list of positive qualities and start remind yourself of your abilities. Once you see just what you’re worth, you’ll start to change the way you feel about yourself.
2. Celebrate What You Achieve
In the process of achieving something, we are often hard on ourselves to maintain focus and avoid giving up. But when you achieve something, even if it’s half-way through, just remember that you’ve gotten past one of life’s challenge and it’s time to celebrate whatever you’ve accomplished. This could mean some quality time with your friends and family, or just going out with your closest friends.
3. Stop Comparing Yourself to Others
Every time you compare yourself to your best friends, always remind yourself that no one’s the same. You are your own person and you should focus on the person you are, no who you’re not. It’s good to use some of these people as role models, but don’t get carried away – people live different lifestyles and come from different backgrounds; so to expect to have what they have can be unrealistic. The only person you should be competing against is yourself.
4. Wear the Right Perfume
Did you know that wearing the right perfume can change the way you feel? Scents are often meant to compliment a person’s identity, so if you’re feeling a little down, why not go for perfume with fruity, floral notes?
5. Practice Yoga
Yoga isn’t only good for your body, but it also eases your mind, helping relieve stress and anxiety. Apart from that, practicing yoga 30 minutes a day gives your body a good stretch, so by the time your session is over, you’ll start feeling good about yourself and your body.
6. Play Dress-Up
Doing what little girls do best is the simplest way to boost your confidence. Throw on your favorite outfits, or create a quirky ensemble and just pose as much as you can in front of the mirror. When going out on an outfit that best resembles your personality and comfort level, and you’ll surely feel confident no matter where you go.
7. Give Yourself a Challenge
Whether it’s a weekly weight-loss goal or getting a pile of work done, always see it as a challenge to better yourself. Challenging yourself, getting over that fear and then doing it will give you a major boost in self-confidence. So find a challenge in everything you do and you should see yourself in a good place soon enough.
8. Put on a Smile
If you’re having a rough day, take a deep breath and smile. Just changing the expression on your face can already impact your life. For example, just putting on a smile, you should already feel more positive about yourself, your work, or even the day. Often times your smile will rub off on the next person; so everyone’s happy!
9. Relax and Unwind
When the world is asking for so much from you, it’s time to take a step back and relax! Anxiety and stress can really damage your self-esteem, so sort out your hectic schedule to make time for something relaxing. Whether it’s a pamper session or a bubble bath at home, a little R&R will do your self-esteem and confidence some good.
10. Do What You Love
Every time you feel like you’ve lost touch with who you are, go back to embrace your hobbies or the things you love doing. It could be cooking, reading, watching movies or spending quality time with your loved one; doing something you love will make you feel more content with yourself, and in return – makes you happier.
