Stage four of water rationing to start on April 4th, says Syabas.
The upcoming water rationing phase will affect more than 6.7 Selangor residents. National Water Services Commission (SPAN) chairman Datuk Ismail Kassim said that the phase will affect nine districts in Selangor: Gombak, Petaling, Klang/Shah Alam, Kuala Selangor, Hulu Selangor, Kuala Lumpur, Kuala Langat, Hulu Langat and Sepang.
“The fourth phase of water rationing will involve an additional 620,237 households making a grand total of 1,340,231 households or 6.7 million people,” he told reporters at SPAN’s headquarters on Tuesday.
The Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KLIA), he said, will however not be affected by the water rationing exercise.
Ismail added that households affected by the fourth phase will be subject to a two-days on, two-days off water supply pattern.
The Sungai Selangor Dam, he added, will now only release 1 billion litres a day, as opposed to 1.6 to 1.8 billion litres previously.
Syarikat Bekalan Air Selangor (Syabas) executive director of the planning division Sanusi Suleiman said that 1.15 million accounts in Selangor would be affected by the rationing.
With regard criticism of the two-days on, two-days off supply pattern, Sanusi said this was done so that there would be enough pressure in the pipes for water to reach homes.
