Sugar is loved by almost everyone, because it does not only provide energy to your body, but makes everything taste so much better! Sugar is the hero in most foods and drinks. Since there’s some form of sugar present in almost every food and drinks out there, you might wonder if you’re consuming more sugar than your body requires? The most obvious way to find out is by doing a blood sugar test, which your can do in the comfort of your home. Alternatively, you can watch out for these signs you feel your sugar consumption is on the higher side.

Your cravings for sugar heightens

Sugar has the tendency to cause addiction. It creates a chain reaction to make you crave for it more. Those who have high intake of sugar on a daily basis are addicted to the rush of energy it provides. However, since sugar will only give you a short burst of energy, your body will hit exhaustion after several hours and you will be craving for more sugar to compensate the lost energy.

You are gaining weight

The amount of sugar we burn, the more calories are produces. As the system burns sugar, it triggers the production of insulin which helps to direct the sugars in the specific channels to give us the much-needed energy. However, if sugar is consumed on a larger amount, the body will not understand how to balance out the insulin production which leads to insulin opposition. When insulin obstruction takes place, your body will start to gain weight.

Prone to flu

Consuming too much sugar can impact your immune system, causing you to catch cold or flu far too often. By keeping the sugar intake in moderate levels, you can maintain a healthier immune system, strong to combat harmful viruses.

Skin issues

When our body sends us any signals, the skin will be first to pick it up. It releases excess oil, toxins, and highlights other symptoms from the body. Similarly, when there’s excess sugar present in your body, your skin will start having issues like rosacea, dermatitis, and dryness. However, there are chances for the skin to recover to its original look and feel once you lower your sugar intake. Other obvious signs include dark circles under your eyes, and thicker skin under your soles and heels.

Hazy brain

This happens to be a major symptom for people with high sugar intake. You can feel your mind feeling hazy usually after supper. When your sugar intake spikes quickly and then drops at a sudden rate, it results to a mind haze. If this occurs on a regular basis, it’s best to consult a doctor and consider limiting any sugar-based products.
