The 2017 Victoria’s Secret Fashion Show is all about glitz, glam and tribal cues.
It is one of fashion’s biggest events, which has attracted around 800 million viewers around the globe, and when some of the sheen — Katy Perry and Gigi Hadid — were missing from the iconic runway affair, the response online in China varies from disappointment to schadenfreude.
After a week marred with logistical issues, the Victoria’s Secret runway embodied the old adage the “show must go on,” with 55 of the world’s most-sought after models strutting their stuff at the Mercedes Benz Arena in Shanghai.
The multi-million dollar line-up featured 17 debutants as well as the brand’s top angels including 29-year-old Candice Swanepoel who opened the show following the birth of her son Ancan, just over a year ago.
She was joined by Adriana Lima, Bella Hadid, Lily Aldridge, Martha Hunt and Karlie Kloss who made a return after her three-year hiatus; but all eyes were on 36-year-old Alessandra Ambrosio who will be hanging up her wings after 17 consecutive shows.
Chinese model Ming Xi who made a rare stumble after tripping on her outfit’s chiffon train, but she handled the fall gracefully by laughing it off.
Despite the absence of her sister Gigi, Bella Hadid effortlessly sashayed her way down the dim lights of the runway, dripping in diamonds, with a dazzling silver necklace enhancing her decolletage, while her fingers and ears were lavished in further jewels.
Angel Romee Strijid nearly tripped on her billowing skirt as she made her way around the catwalk.
Alessandra Ambrosio, 36, ensured all eyes would be on her as she took to the runway for what is expected to be her last Victoria’s Secret show. The supermodel was tapped to represent the brand in 2000, but after having represented the fashion house for almost 20 years the brunette beauty will be hanging up her angel wing.
Also dazzling was Lais Ribeiro – who took to the Victoria’s Secret Fashion Show runway wearing the eagerly anticipated $2million gold Fantasy Bra – after previously teasing fans with a glimpse of the eye-wateringly pricey piece
Fellow senior angel Adriana Lima did not disappoint too as she took the stage in Shanghai. The longest running model has been named ‘the most valuable Victoria’s Secret Angel’ earlier this year.
Martha Hunt dazzled in a glamorous ethereal style skirt that attached to her silver lingerie.
