On the 18th of April 2015, The Body Shop gave away 1,000 tree saplings at The Curve in conjunction with Earth Day. In collaboration with Free Tree Society, The Body Shop distributed 16 types of plants and encouraged Malaysians to plant trees no matter where they lived. The saplings included passion fruit, aloe vera, frangipani, cat’s whiskers, papaya, blue pea and mulberry, among others.
Protecting the planet is one of The Body Shop’s core values and with the inclining rate of deforestation which accumulates to approximately 33,000 hectares of land in the past five years, The Body Shop needed to increase its efforts.
Families had the chance to hear from Free Tree Society about the importance of tree planting in their own backyard and how to care for the plant they chose to nurture. Malaysian Alliance Conservation for Tigers (MYCAT) was also present to share information about the Malayan Tigers.
The Body Shop recently worked with MYCAT to raise funds through the Kick the Bag Habit campaign, which encourages the public to save the environment by reducing the usage of paper bags. With every bag taken, RM0.50 is donated, and when a bag is refused, The Body Shop then donates the RM0.50. Paper bags with information on tigers are also used by The Body Shop in its 72 stores nationwide.
