Take note, ladies! If you experienced a traumatic abuse event as a child, then your child are most likely to suffered from autism!

According to our source, the researchers from the Harvard School of Public Health published a study in JAMA Psychiatry found that 60% of 50,000 women who experienced the most physical, emotional or sexual abuse as children are most likely to have a child with autism. The researchers examined the medical records from 50,000 women enrolled in the Nurses’ Health Study II.

It was reportedly that 1.8% of children born to women reporting the highest amount of abuse had autism compared with 0.7% of those born to women who said they were never screamed at, hit, or sexually abused as children.

Dr Andrea Roberts, a research associate at the Harvard School of Public Health said one in four women in the study fell into the top group of women who suffered the most abuse.

However, the study has yet to proved that abuse in childhood merely makes the association than leading to autism. Roberts said the abuse may has a lasting effect on a women’s immune system or her stress response system which increases their child’s risk in utero. Exercise, professional counseling and meditation are some of the recommended ways for stress management and dealing with their past for all pregnant women.
