Friends are people whom all of us need in life. Some friends come and some friends go nevertheless everyone of them would have taught us something or another before making that exit from our lives.
You’re probably closer to your friends compared to your family members as you find it easier to relate your situations to them. Your friends would also probably be feeling the same when it comes to you but how many times have that friend asked you to cover their backs up for different reasons.

1) Is the situation harmful?
Find out the actual reason she wants to hide the truth from the other person. She may not be in a proper state of mind and it is your duty to get the 411’s about the situation. If the actual situation is harmful for instance she is going through an abusive relationship, then it is your duty to get real help instead of just hiding the truth from her parents.

2) How often has this happened?
If you notice that this has started to become a habit, then it is your duty to stop it immediately. Do not wait for it to turn from bad to worst until you really get tired with the friendship and you are forced to end it. Be honest with her and let her know that you are not willing to tell a lie on her behalf anymore.
3) Is it worth your reputation?
If it is going to tarnish your own reputation, then it is not worth covering up for her as true friends would never put you through that situation. For instance, if she wants you to hide the fact that she is committing some act of corruption, it is not worth the effort. At the end of the day, you would also end up into trouble.
