[REVIEW] The Curious Goat, Damansara Perdana

Opened for business in May 2014, The Curious Goat is cosy cafe tucked in the business district of Damansara Perdana. Featuring a minimalistic and clean aesthetic, the founders of the cafe were inspired by the coffee culture in Sydney, Australia and decided to start up something of their own back home here in Malaysia.

There is nothing much to shout about when it comes to the cafe’s interior, but we do admire the coffee counter and high table set made entirely out of recyclable paper palettes. The walls of the cafe are also decked out in cool graffiti artworks, some of which are hand-drawn with chalk.

Similar to most cafes, the busiest periods during its business hours would be from morning to lunchtime and post-dinnertime as the customers ultimately visit for the coffee. Having said that, The Curious Goat also serves a small selection of savoury sandwiches and pastas, as well as some yummy desserts. We headed to the cafe for a taste test, so check out our review below:

flat white

Flat White (RM10) – Aromatic, simple yet strong in flavour, the Flat White at The Curious Goat is silky smooth. It was served with no sugar added, so we could really taste the solid espresso.

salted caramel latte

Iced Salted Caramel Latte (RM14) – This beverage is a new addition to the cafe’s menu and it’s delightful. With every sip, there’s an initial hint of salt and buttery, delectable caramel before tasting the coffee. The drink isn’t too sweet and it makes for a refreshing treat. This rich latte could very well be a satisfying dessert.

pesto n brie sandwich

Pesto & Brie Sandwich (RM16) – Served with a side salad topped off with sesame seed dressing, homemade pesto and a mixture of mozzarella plus brie is used for this toasted sandwich. The cafe is very generous with the filling and there is a good balance of flavours. Even though it is pretty much stuffed with oozing cheese, the herby pesto tones down its richness.

grilled chicken pasta

Roasted Chicken Pasta (RM15) – A simple dish, the pasta is served with a homemade tomato based sauce and thick slices of chicken breast. The pasta sauce tastes mediocre, but the chicken breast is flavourful. The meat is tender, and the crust is nicely seasoned with a mixture of herbs. We still prefer the sandwich over this pasta dish though.

nutella crepe

Nutella Mille Crepe (RM14) – We don’t fancy mille crepes because of the excessive and borderline sickening creaminess. However, this Nutella Mille Crepe is nothing like that. It’s light, fluffy, not too sweet and most importantly, not crazy creamy. Compared to other mille crepes we’ve tried, The Curious Goat’s version is more easily palatable and pleasurable.

salted caramel peanut butter cheesecake

Salted Caramel Peanut Butter Cheesecake (RM14) – This is yet another memorable dessert for us. With every bite, there is a little bit of salted caramel, light cheesecake, chocolate cake and a crunchy biscuit. Even though the flavour of the peanut butter is the most prominent, the different flavours gel wonderfully and it’s delicious.

This cafe is indeed the ideal place to relax, have a cuppa and a slice of cake, or even for some quiet time to get work done. Our only complaints are that the savoury food menu is very limited, and looking for parking around that area is almost impossible to do, especially during working hours on weekdays.
