Malaysia’s first Shariah-compliant airline, Rayani Air, has been served a provisional three-month suspension notice by the Department of Civil Aviation (DCA today, although the airline announced that it would suspend operations on Saturday as part of the company’s restructuring plan.
It was reported that there was a strike organised by its pilots on Friday, and this forced the airline to cancel at least three flights.
Rayani Air has violated the conditions of its Air Operators Certificate (AOC), and a full administration as well as safety audit would be conducted soon.
The DCA could revoke Rayani Air’s licence any time, but the airline would be given an opportunity to explain themselves and make things right.
In March, Rayani Air also drew flak for issuing a handwritten boarding pass to one of its passengers. Since commencing operations, the airline has already been facing issues with many flight delays and cancellations.
