Ballerinas consistently look ultra graceful and poised when dancing, but the fact of the matter is that it is one of the toughest artistic dance styles to master and its intensity is often overlooked. And sure enough, renowned New York City Ballet (NYCB) soloist Unity Phelan completely concurs.
In conjunction with International Women’s Day, Puma and NYCB brought together women of all walks for the launch of their latest ballet-inspired, Selena Gomez-fronted En Pointe collection, whereby Phelan guided us through a special ballet training session as part of the Puma x NYCB tour across Asia. It was eye-opening indeed.
Phelan, who has been doing ballet since age four, discussed the fitness aspects of being a professional ballet dancer and the delivery of the art form, “The performers of the New York City Ballet are more than just ordinary dancers, being some of the most highly-trained athletes who use their bodies more extensively and effectively than anyone in the world.”
Delighted over Puma’s involvement with ballet, Phelan also talks about how Puma’s DO YOU campaign, in line with ballet, inspires more women to celebrate power, strength and individuality. “We are honoured that PUMA has taken inspiration from the grace and strength of ballet dancers to come up with the En Pointe collection under the DO YOU campaign.”
“Ballet has such an intense discipline and the most beautiful thing about ballet is that it constantly reminds you to find inspiration in yourself and always strive to be your better self,” she added. The En Pointe collection, inspired by ballet, comprises satin sneakers, light sports bras and other athleisure accessories offering dynamic flexibility and movement.
The PUMA x NYCB En Pointe collection, priced between RM129 and RM429 is now available in PUMA KLCC, Pavilion Kuala Lumpur and Sunway Pyramid.
