The Internet takes yet another strange turn and this time, in the form of an app called Invisible Boyfriend that lets you have a fake boyfriend so real that everyone around you will believe you’re in a committed relationship.
The app’s official site states that it gives “you real-world and social proof that you’re in a relationship – even if you’re not – so you can get back to living life on your own terms.” Invisible Boyfriend allows you to have conversations via texting, share photos and you can also “tell a believable story about your ‘invisible’ boyfriend”. And how exactly does one create their invisible boyfriend? You get to pick his name, his age, his photo and create a personality. There’s even a template for you to create the story of how you met!
The app costs USD24.99 and it sounds like a fabulous way to deal with those difficult “Why haven’t you got a boyfriend yet” questions. While it sounds like a viable option for lonely hearts out there who are searching for a last resort, it might be all fun and games until reality is blurred (like that movie Her) and when your friends ask to meet this boyfriend.
