Many quaint speakeasy bars have popped up around the Klang Valley in the past couple of years and it just keeps getting better. Just the other day, we visited newly opened speakeasy The Locker & Loft at Damansara Kim that is cleverly hidden behind a set of rusty lockers, unveiling a secret modish den for food and drinks.
The Locker & Loft is the brainchild of lifestyle blogger Deepak Gill who’s better known as the Thirstyblogger and his partner Paul Dass, a maverick entrepreneur. What makes this speakeasy stand out is its very Malaysian twist on cocktails, tapas and main courses that are served within this cosy, rustic set-up with a 25-foot long copper-topped bar.
As the Founder of the Alcohol Consumer-Rights Group Malaysia which seeks to protect the interests of alcohol consumers, Gill has made sure that Locker & Loft reflects his passion for good food and cocktails that are accessible to all. More than anything, this establishment is a casual spot where people can enjoy food, drinks and quality music with some company.
Locker & Loft serves up some interesting cocktails that are noteworthy. One of our favourites is Kelapa Rock, which is a coconut-water infused vodka cocktail that is wonderfully refreshing and has a complex amalgamation of flavours. To keep you on your toes and add variety, Locker & Loft also releases a new Malaysian-inspired cocktail weekly.
On its menu, you’ll find a handful of peculiar Malaysian fusion dishes, like the addictive Mutton Varuval Quesadillas as well as the Miso-Flavoured Moringas that sound unusual, but is nutritious and satisfying to devour. Some of the main courses include the slow-cooked Char Siew Baby-Back Ribs, and the Smoked Duck Linguine with Lap Cheong.
Locker & Loft is also the first bar outside Australia to serve West Wind gins that are distilled with pure water from Margaret River and incorporates native Australian plants. For music aficionados, Locker & Loft runs Blues Nights on Tuesdays and House Nights on Fridays, whereby local deejays will take the decks.
Starting May 1st, barbecue lovers can relish in a Sunday BBQ at Locker & Loft for a lazy afternoon with drinks and a whole lot of meat. This will go on subsequently every first Sunday of the month from 2pm to 5pm. At Locker & Loft, food prices begin from RM8 and cocktails are priced from RM22.
