Getting the Right Work-Life Balance

Some women are career orientated, some are  family orientated while the rest would like to enjoy the benefits of both worlds. If you are a working mum, you would understand that so much is expected out of you; at work and at home but as time goes by, you are beginning to feel that you are drowning and you can”t cope anymore.

Many misinterpret the meaning of work-life balance by assuming that it is only applicable if you were to spend equal amount of time between your career and personal life. Hudson (2005) however stated that it is more of a practical behaviour of reaching a satisfactory level of involvement in the different roles you play in life.

It is not impossible for you to be play the multiple roles in your life actively and if celebrities can do it so can you. Imagine how Kimora Lee juggles her life on the fabulous lane and as a mother to three kids? Or how about Hillary Clinton who is the first lady of the United States and at the same time a mother as well.

If they can do it, so can you. You may think that it is easier for them as they have got all the cash, but think again. Do you think the life of an accountant is easier compared to a life of an actress?

Leave behind celebrities but how do modern day mums do it? Lipstiq would like to share with you a story which we found rather inspiring from YouTube.

Casey works at Dell and carries the responsibility of a team manager, wife and a mother.  Her job is extremely hectic to the extend she can end up working 18 to 20 hours per day. But the key to handling such jobs is proper time management. Her secret is to work smartly and to only commit to projects which she knows she can accomplish. Her advise is to ensure that deadlines are stated very clearly and to prioritize on tasks which are extremely important.

She admits that she doesn’t have the time to attend all school related events when it comes to her children but she makes it a point to attend functions which are extremely meaningful to her kids. Creating that relationship with school teachers helps her to keep track of her children’s performance at school.

So ladies here you go. A simple example which you may consider following. We certainly do not want to miss out on our children and on our career but try different methods and see which one works best for you. As Faith Hill once said:

“There’s no secret when it comes to juggling career and motherhood… There are days when everyone is fussy, fighting and late. But I think about the days when she’ll be too big and tall. I enjoy the little moments now even though they’re not perfect.”
