How To Win Over Your Boyfriend’s Parents

Meeting your boyfriend’s parents is always scary but sometimes we freak ourselves out a lot more than we should, and for the worst too! We worry because of course when you love someone all you want is their family’s acceptance. While it is important not to over think things and to just go with the flow, there are a few pointers to be mindful of too.

Be polite – First impressions last, especially on your boyfriends parents. So ensure that you are charming and polite, greet them with a smile and express how pleased you are to meet them. Don’t go overboard though you don’t want them thinking you are trying too hard because they it won’t come off as being genuine and could even make things slightly awkward. If you succeed at this, chances are his parents will encourage him to spend time with you as they will see you as a polite girl who is therefore a positive influence on their son.

Dress accordingly – You definitely want to look tasteful in front of your mans folks more than anything, choose an outfit that eludes class but is still your style. Do not go for something you would never wear just because it covers skin because then they do not get to see the real you and you will have to keep up an act for the length of your relationship which will just be tiring. Plus, if he loves you, they should too!

Converse with them –  Show his parents that you are able to hold a conversation with them and they will see more reason to spend time around you. If you are too timid or quiet you will not give yourself a chance to impress them with you intelligence and they will be able to tell how nervous you are. So remember confidence is key, however remember to be intelligent, not annoying!

Treat him well – This does not mean being lovely in front of the parents and horrible behind their backs! You still want to be you, just the best you. If they witness you treating their son with love and respect they should be satisfied with your relationship.
