21-year old Marimar Quiroa was born with a facial tumour called cystic hygroma, a condition where the tumour grows along with the child.
Although she has gone through a number of treatments, the complete removal of the tumour is not possible. If growths are not cancerous, doctors may not want to get rid of the cystic hygroma, fearing that doing so might cause damage to healthy tissues.
Marimar started her YouTube makeup tutorials about two years ago, where she shares makeup tips and communicates through sign language. She has over 100,000 subscribers on her YouTube channel, and at least a million views on her videos.
”What I like about makeup and beauty is imagining new looks, especially around the eyes, and showing people they’re beautiful no matter what.” she said. “When I was younger I would talk to myself in the mirror. I would tell myself I was beautiful,”
Despite the appalling number of hate comments she receives on YouTube, she remains positive about life. “To me, beauty means to accept yourself for who you are, and to ignore what other people tell you.”
