Create Your Own Happiness

1. Pick your Circle Wisely

By circle, we mean circle of friends and family. Believe it or not, the people around you affect your mood, behaviour and how you are as a person. Spend time with people who are driven, positive and like minded. All the good traits they have, will somewhat rub off on you. Life is too short to be around people who put you down and bring negative vibes. Always surround yourself with people who make you happy.

2. “Me” Time

With todays hustle and bustle of our everyday lives, it’s hard to find some alone time. This is crucial in being happy. Having time to think, to breathe, to relax and to do things you need to do for yourself at least an hour a day is a must. It could be something simple like having coffee in the morning, or a long hot shower when you get home. Pamper yourself with small gifts and treats. Alone time to think and reflect on yourself and your day gives you a better perspective of life and how to make things better.

3. The Glass is Always Full

People always say look at the glass as half full instead of half empty. We say it’s always full. It’s half water and half air, hence it is always full. It’s all in the mind and your mindset. Thinking positive and constantly motivating yourself (as cliche as it sounds) are key when it comes to being happy. Always remember to look for the deeper sense of happiness.

4. Help When you Can

Remember, what goes around comes around. Always make an effort to help whenever you can. It could be something really simple like sharing a picture of an animal that needs to be adopted on Facebook or giving away your old clothes to a homeless shelter. You’ll never know who you can help and who’s life you’ll change. A little goes a long way and knowing you helped someone will make you feel good about yourself.

5. Take Care of Yourself

If you feel good, you look good and vice versa. If your physical energy is low, it is most likely it will effect your mental and emotional energy as well. Simple things like walking up stairs instead of taking the lift, or parking a distance and walking to your destination daily can make an impact on your physical health. Exercise has been known to release endorphins that give you a feeling of happiness. Drinking water, eating your vegetables and fruits (everything our moms’ have told us!) also play an important role.

6. Wear a Smile

It takes 17 muscles to smile and 43 to frown. So why not do your face a favour and smile more often? Besides. smiles are infectious! It can automatically change not only your behaviour but also of the people around you. When they people around you are happy and positive, it’ll instantly affect your mood as well.
