The latest hair trend that everyone has probably tried at least once in 2021 is… CURTAIN BANGS! If you’re unfamiliar with them, curtain bangs are a type of fringe parted down the middle and swept to each side. They have surged in popularity this year, as they are the perfect style for anyone looking to try bangs without the full-on commitment. Getting curtain bangs is easy-peasy. But you’re gonna need someone to guide you on how you can style them so they look just as perfect as when they come out after your visit the salon. And with that, let us be that someone for you.

1. Blow dry brush technique

Because using a blow dryer allows for more volume and bounce to the look, it is the most common and recommended way to style your curtain bangs. For this technique, you’re gonna need a blow dry brush. But if you don’t have one, you can use a round brush and blow dryer with a nozzle instead.

Here’s a step-by-step guide:

  1. Section off bangs using a small round brush
  2. Blow dry in an upwards motion pulling with tension for volume
  3. Constantly turn the brush
  4. Hold in place until it cools

2. Using a curling iron

Want the blown-out look but don’t feel like using a hair dryer to get there? We say you can also use a curling iron, like YouTuber Cheryl Rocha does below. A 1- or 1.25-inch curling iron is great for faking the round-brush blowout look. Make sure you also have a texturizing spray on hand to help you add some piece-y texture and bounce, as well as a medium-hold hairspray to keep your curtain bangs in place and out of your eyes.

3. Using a flat iron

Give your curtain bangs some extra body by using a flat iron and twist it away from your face to help give your bangs more direction. Have a peep at the video below to see how YouTuber Mae Sitler gets it done, then make sure your flat iron is up to the task:

The final word

Honestly, if you’ve been contemplating getting curtain bangs for some time now, it might be time to go for it. But just remember that although curtain bangs are easier to style than other bangs, some styling is still needed. Oh, and BTW, you definitely don’t wanna DIY your curtain bangs unless you’re prepared for a possible DIY disaster. We’ve warned you.
