This Guy Dyed His Hair With Mountain Dew & It Totally Worked

There are a lot of ways to add some colour to your hair. Some people use lemon juice to brighten their locks and others use tea or herbs to colour their hair. But no one has really used soda, like Mountain Dew, for example, until this vlogger put it to the test.

Los Angeles-based YouTube star, Bradlee Wannemacher, who is well-known for his out-of-the-box hair colour transformations by using food found in his fridge and around his pantry, has tried just about everything (and we mean everything) to take his platinum blonde hair to new hues.

And for his latest experiment, Bradlee proved his theory that the soda isn’t only used for drinking, created his very own DIY hair dye just by using Mountain Dew Code Red. (Yes, seriously)

“I chose the red Mountain Dew because the red is going to show up in your hair better than any other colour,” he said in a recent YouTube video. “The lemon-lime colour won’t work.”

To create the dusty red-orange shade, Bradley combined his own hair dye formula by mixing two-thirds conditioner (he used Tresemmé Botanique Nourish and Replenish Conditioner), and one-third Code Red Mountain Dew all in a large pot. After mixing thoroughly, the substance became a thick, creamy paste. From there, he took the mix to the shower and began applying the paste onto his then-platinum blonde hair. (Before, though, he poured almost an entire bottle of Code Red onto his head just for fun).

After waiting about 40 minutes for the “dye” to set in, Wannemacher rinsed it out to find that, surprisingly, it actually worked! Well, sorta. The final colour wasn’t exactly red, but a dusty pink — which we totally love anyway.
