When you get older, there are some living habits you just need to grow out of. Sooner or later, you’ll come to realize what’s more important and good for you in the long run. Slowly develop these healthy living habits and they would soon become second nature to you, we promise!

1. Be grateful – Count your blessings and be grateful. It isn’t very hard to do. Find a reason to smile daily and this will make you a happier person overall. Showing gratitude can improve your well-being and help you feel content with life, making you a more delightful person.

2. Spend more time with your loved ones – When all else fails, your family and friends are the ones who are going to stand by you and make everything so much better. Your strong social bonds would also help you reap many health benefits. You’d be happier and feel more fulfilled.

3. Drink moderately – Your days of partying till dawn and getting pissed drunk should be getting lesser, if not completely in the past. If you want to drink, drink wisely and always be in control. Learn to say no when others push you into having more drinks, knowing you’ve had enough.

4. Get more sleep – Try to get between seven to eight hours of sleep daily to ensure that your body gets sufficient rest and your bodily systems maintain a healthy cycle. This would also translate to healthier productivity during the day, besides helping your skin glow from within.

5. Drink more water – Cut out the sugared drinks and make sure you have a bottle of water by your side at all times. Besides nourishing your skin, water keeps your bodily systems running smoothly and helps you avoid unnecessary health problems. Many young people nowadays do not drink enough water, and they really should.

6. Don’t forget your check ups – Invest in your health to make sure everything is aye okay. Whether it is your eye care, physical check ups, dental care or gynaecological health, visit the doctor and experts regularly. This way, you can avoid paying for it big time when a condition is at its worst.

7. Go outdoors – Instead of being a couch potato indoors, get outside and breathe in some fresh air. Make it a habit to take a stroll around the park or around your neighbourhood. It’s good for your soul and it would help you find peace, drawing out negativity and bitterness.

8. Exercise – We know exercising can be dreadful, but at the end of the day, it really is going to help you stay healthy and feel better about yourself. Don’t like going to the gym? You can cycle, run, do yoga, hike or do aerobics. Avoid looking for excuses and get to it.

9. Practice safe sex – Everyone is vulnerable to STDs and you really never know. You should also take control of your reproductive decisions and only have children when you choose to. Avoid any accidents and be smarter than that. Do proper family planning.

10. Learn to cook – You don’t have to be a Michelin starred chef in the kitchen, but you should learn the basics and be able to prepare a few comfort foods, at the very least. When you cook, you know what goes into your meals. Hence, you can use healthier and fresher ingredients that are good for you.
