Dubbed as the “Queen of Prints”, Mary Katrantzou is recognized as one of fashion’s most innovative designers today. Katrantzou collaborates with sportswear pioneer, Adidas, to create Adidas Originals by Mary Katrantzou – a collection of apparel and footwear adorned in the designer’s immersive designs.
A “go faster” A-line mini dress in textured tricot fabric, features a super sized print of sporty lacing, drawing parallels between women’s essentials of two very different eras: the sneaker and the corset. Other pieces offer a utilitarian purpose, while always delivering poise in Katrantzou’s vivid colour palette and exceptional sense of pattern. Acidic and electric hues of orange and pink sit alongside aquatic green and deep cobalt, contrasted with shades of graphite grey and marble.
An aquamarine track jacket in polished tricot and a fitted t-shirt in printed mesh, uphold Katrantzou’s reputation as a formidable graphic innovator. Seamless leggings in a blown-up sneaker print complete an eye-catching lineup that caters to the age of Instagram.
Footwear combines the designer’s eye for precision engineering, with adidas’ legacy of innovative technology and breakthrough technical design. The Equipment Racer, a deconstructed mesh and textile upper with a clear glitter outsole is covered in a laced up floral pattern.
Meanwhile, allowing room for a unisex aesthetic, the ZX 5000 covers its soft suede upper with molded silicon and distinct metal spikes, placing the actual sole design of the adidas iconic running shoe, on the shoe’s front. These shoes, much like the entire collection, subvert the iconic running shoe and the Adidas Trefoil logo into a vision of powerful, 21st-century femininity that is wholly Katrantzou’s.
Adidas Originals by Mary Katrantzou will be available November 15th 2014, exclusively at the Adidas Originals Concept Store in KLCC.
