What a delightful sight.
Organised by the Tourism and Culture Ministry, the spirit of Ramadan shone through at Dataran Merdeka during a buka puasa event. Hundreds gathered on the first day to break fast together.
“Ramadan is a time of giving,” said ministry officer Shahril Nizam, 33, who had helped set up the food stalls, stage and tents since 2pm that afternoon.
“We invited underprivileged children and orphans from different organisations to join us for buka puasa.
“This event is for everybody,” he said.
Among the dishes served were bubur lambuk and char kway teow.
Student Siti Hajaj Majeeha, 15, said she came by bus with other students from her boarding school.
“This is the first time I’m attending this event.
“I’m happy to be here,” she said.
Culture and Arts Department director-general Datuk Norliza Rofli said the event was about giving and sharing.
“It is more blessed to give than to receive,” she said.
