UPDATE
Political activist Hishamuddin Rais and student activist Adam Adli were released on police bail after their statements were recorded.
Inspector-General of Police Tan Sri Khalid Abu Bakar now wants national laureate A Samad Said to surrender to police for his involvement in gathering where the flag was flown. He also recited poetry as he tried to fly the flag.
Last Friday, Rais and Adli flew a red and white flag with 12 yellow stars, a flag used by left-wing political coalition Putera-AMCJA in 1947. [Source]

Political activist Hishamuddin Rais and student activist Adam Adli were arrested and detained at Dang Wangi District Police Headquarters last night to facilitate investigations on the flying of a different flag during the 56th Merdeka Day celebrations at Dataran Merdeka.
They were arrested in relation to flying a different flag to purportedly replace the Jalur Gemilang on the night of Merdeka.
Kuala Lumpur CID chief Ku Chin Wah said the duo were detained under Section 4(1)(b) of the Sedition Act 1948 and Section 505 (b) of the Penal Code.
This isn’t the first that student activist Adam Adli had a brush with the law.
In May, the 24-year-old was charged under the sedition act for questioning the results of the 13th General Election and called on Malaysians to take on the streets to boot Barisan Nasional from Putrajaya. He also said that Malaysians “cannot wait for five years to overthrow UMNO and BN”.
A candlelight vigil was organized for his release.
