At the recent ‘Upholding Peace & Stability: Protecting Civilians’ forum, Malaysia Peace keeping Centre Commandant Colonel Badrul Hisham Mohammad said operating in conflict or war-torn countries has always been a challenge for peacekeepers. The peacekeepers who are on United Nations (UN) deployed missions faced various challenges, including the language barrier, different ways of working and the distinct lack of infrastructure and facilities.
He said all these challenges prompted the Malaysian Armed Forces (MAF) to carried out their duties effectively and move forward. He also pointed out that he lack of infrastructure and basic facilities in the mission area required a high degree of self-sustainment.
He said, “Not only did we earn the respect and gratitude of our own nation, but also managed to enhance and strengthen our cooperation with the other skateholders.”
