What Your Makeup Says About You at Work

Ever wondered whether your makeup defines your character as an employee? Well, it turns out that it sends off a couple of messages, sometimes good, and sometimes..not so good.
According to a study, it appears that wearing makeup makes you seem more competent but too much makes you seem dishonest. So where do we draw the line in having fun with our ‘art’ and still appearing professional? (Source)
We share with with you just what kind of message your makeup sends off.

Thick Foundation
It’s no denying just how much women rely on a good layer of foundation to mask their facial flaws like blemishes, freckles and scars. But if you’re one to never ever leave home without foundation on your skin, you might be hiding a couple of your insecurities, and they’re not always about your skin – it could even be your own personal issues with being accepted by the crowd.

If you’re trying to hide your blemishes, opt for a good concealer and some BB cream. Less is more, after all.

Bright Red Lipstick
The red lipstick is a classic lip color that defines the sexiness of a woman’s character, and so many female icons have rocked it, so why not you? Red lip are also known to exude a sense of strong character and strength, but however make-up artist Amelia Axton recommends wearing your red lips without a full mask of make-up as bright lip colors are sometimes found overwhelming. Smokey Eyes
Smokey eyes were the staple go-to looks by 20’s flapper girls, and considering it’s an age-old makeup look, why would anyone have problems with it? According to makeup artist Meredith Baraf, smokey eye makeup gives off the message that you’re a “sultry woman with a good sense of your own sexuality and inner power. You could say that it’s true but wearing dark-smokey eye makeup could seem like you come-off a little cheap. If smokey eyes are your go to look, opt of for light natural colors like light brown and bronze to accentuate your eyes, instead of darks like grays and blacks.

Cat-eye Makeup
Not everyone can pull off a good cat-eye in terms of skill and sometimes, they simply don’t suit your frame. Makeup artist Marissa Nemes says someone who can pull off a cat-eye is “expressive and confident in your inner beauty. So, if you do, kudos to you!

Wearing a cat-eye also shows that you believe that the little things count, so you tend to let people know just how much you appreciate them. However, the right cat-eye makeup will only send off that message, and one that is way too thick may make you seem like you’re out to party. Keep it simple with a thin layer of liner on your lids, and super slim flick at the edge for something subtle and sexy for the workplace.
