Spectators began to throng the venue which could hold as many as 2,500 viewers as early as 1.00 pm despite the rain which had caused several games to be postponed throughout the week including today. Today also being Power Over Cervical Cancer Day saw 200 ladies receiving a free General Admission Ticket and a welcome gift.
We managed to catch the 2nd Singles Semi Final where Eleni Daniildou from Greece and Hsieh Su-Wei from Taipei were battling it out for a place in the finals.
Hsieh Su-Wei representing Taipei
It was an intense game but anyone could see that the game was Hsieh’s from the very beginning. The 26 year old won the match against Eleni Daniilidou by 6-0, 4-6, 6-1 in a game that lasted 5 hours and had to be suspended twice due to the rain. She will face the winner of the match between Petra Martic of Croatia and second seeded Jelena Jankovic of Serbia scheduled later tonight.
Daniilidou suffered a waist injury in the final game at the 5-1 match score. The Doubles and Singles finals will be held tomorrow from 3.00 pm onwards. May the best woman win!
