Toxic Toss-out: Dangerous Chemicals In Beauty Products You Must Steer Clear Of

Did you know that, on average, most women misuse about 12 personal care items every day, exposing themselves to over 168 chemical compounds? According to the Environmental Working Group, The Food and Drug Administration in the United States has banned 30 substances, whereas the European Union has banned nearly 1,300? Unbelievable!

A separate piece of the worrisome study revealed that the skin absorbs up to 60% of the chemicals in products. They come into direct contact with the bloodstream after that. What we put on our skin should be as pure as what we consume, but most people are unaware of this fact. Even in minute amounts, many of the chemicals routinely found in products can have significant health and hormonal impact, and many are still illiterate about the repercussions.

As a result, IT’S VERY, VERY IMPORTANT FOR US to take matters into our own hands and exercise extreme caution when putting products on our skin. Remember ladies, just because something “works” does not mean it is helpful in the long run. Many cosmetics and skincare components have been linked to health issues such as respiratory problems, cancer, hormone imbalances, chronic fatigue, chest pains, and more.

Here are some major chemical substances that are a BIG NO-NO in your skincare!

Phthalates

This chemical is frequently used in skin care products to help convey scents and increase product permeability. It is likely to perturb hormones, causing negative effects on the reproductive system and possibly causing birth abnormalities. It has been linked to numerous health issues such as ADHD and diabetes, and it is a well-known carcinogen.

Paraben

This chemical is used as a preservative to prevent bacteria, mold, and fungal growth. It’s commonly found in moisturisers, face and skin cleaners, deodorants, shampoos, conditioners, and sunscreens. Parabens have been found in studies to disrupt hormones in the body, causing harm to fertility and reproductive organs, affecting birth outcomes, and increasing the risk of developing breast cancer.

Oxybenzone

This chemical is often used to protect your skin from UVA and UVB rays by trapping them and is commonly found in sunscreens, cleansers, and lip balms. Since it is highly ingested, there has been some caution about its relation to severe skin allergies, redness, and irritation. It has a tendency to disrupt hormones and, in severe situations, can lead to skin or breast cancer.

It is true that aromatic chemicals are mostly causative for cancer. They are almost always present as an ingredient in most skin care products. Try opting for organic and natural alternatives instead. It may be difficult sometimes since these products are a vital part of your everyday life.

However, actions need to be taken to prevent negative consequences. Make an effort to use them as infrequently as possible. For great-looking skin, eat a balanced diet rich in fruits and vegetables that are readily available and have no negative side effects.
