False news about the halal status of food sold at McDonald’s has resurfaced on social media recently and Jakim has advised members of the public to stop spreading it.
The false news in question raises doubts over the halal status of the Quarter Pounder sold at McDonald’s. Jakim has once again reiterated that McDonald’s holds a valid halal certificate and is strictly compliant to the procedures and standards set by Jakim.
You can now eat your Quarter Pounders in peace, everyone. On May 9th, McDonald’s has also released an official statement regarding the false rumour:
Regarding a message circulating on social media on the removal of ‘Quarter Pounder™ with Cheese’ from our restaurants due to it being “banned by JAKIM”, we wish to strongly refute this allegation and firmly state that it is completely baseless and untrue. The ‘Quarter Pounder™ with Cheese’ is one of the products being phased out at our restaurants nationwide as part of our menu rationalization to make way for new menu items in the future. We wish to reassure our customers that all our products are certified Halal by JAKIM or by Halal authorities that are recognized by JAKIM. In the case of our beef products, our beef patties are made of 100% beef sourced from abattoirs in Australia, New Zealand and Brazil that have been approved by JAKIM and the Department of Veterinary Services Malaysia. Like all of our other products, the beef products are 100% Halal and certified as such.
