Facebook is currently testing a new feature that can possibly alert you if it detects any account that is trying to impersonate yours, using your name and profile photo. This is one step forward for the social network to help combat harassment on its site.
This new feature is designed to send a notification to the user that someone is impersonating their profile. Users will then be promoted to confirm if the profile in question is indeed an impersonator. Although the process is automated, the flagged accounts will be manually reviewed by the Facebook team.
This feature, which Facebook began testing in November, is now live in about 75% of the world and Facebook plans to expand its availability in the near future, says Facebook’s Head of Global Safety Antigone Davis.
